Sapele: Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has reportedly being briefed of impending threat that would force him to temporarily put aside the plan to meet Sapele people in the ongoing state-wide town hall meeting.
At the process of commissioning some projects in the area on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, suspected thugs loyal to the former speaker stormed the area, and prevented the Governor from commissioning a project slated for commissioning.
Report had it that the Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa have been advised to shelve the town hall meeting to be held in Sapele, and focus only in Oghara.
At the protest yesterday, the former speaker, Rt. Hon Monday Igbuya was sighted leading the protest, but the information has it that his presence saved ugly development that would had occurred.
Igbuya was last week sacked and was immediately replaced by a new Speaker, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, representing Okpe Constituency.
As at yesterday evening, the idea of to go or not to go to Sapele was still being considered, it was learnt that the Governor has been put under pressure to shelve the meeting for now to enable the security agency arrest the situation which led to the Tuesday skirmishes.
The security report is pointing to a possible breach between the camp of Igbuya and another house member, Mr Michael Diden popularly known as Ejele.
However, the youths in the area believe that the governor is directly linked to the removal of Igbuya, as a youth said: “The protest is against Okowa because we know he was behind the impeachment of Igbuya and we can’t allow such a person to visit Sapele to do anything. The governor was lucky that he was not attacked. Mr. Igbuya remains the Speaker of the House whether they like it or not. What you saw was child’s play. The whole world will hear when we storm the Government House to continue our protest,” the visibly angry youth said
Meanwhile, Ndokwa Reporters has it that the situation now in Sapele is that many people are already painting the situation with ethnic coloration thus pitching the Urhobo’s and Itsekiri’s against each them.
