ASABA/Nigeria: Senator Emmanuel Aguariavwodo, has said Nigerians will not be clamouring for the restructuring of the country if the federating states are allowed to control their resources.
Speaking to journalists in Asaba, Senator Aguariavwodo who represented Delta Central Senatorial District and currently serves as the Special Adviser on Infrastructure to the Delta State Government listed areas that the Federal Government will have to tackle for Nigerians to stop clamouring for restructuring.
According to him, “do to me what you want me to do to you, don’t abuse power; because, some set of people think they own the power, that is why things are not working the way they should work; if those who are at the federal level want to do things the way things should be done, why should I care where I live in Nigeria? Why should I be afraid to live in Maiduguri? Institutions are not functioning the way they should function, that is why people are clamouring for restructuring.”
“If we have state Police, why should people be clamouring for restructuring? If we control our resources, people will not clamour for restructuring and perhaps, if we have a situation where every state must be known for three crops and you see the government carrying out such policy, people will not be clamouring for restructuring,” he said, adding, “may be, if we have a proper census, when people will know the true population of this country, people will not clamour for restructuring, and If there is proper delineation of state constituencies or federal constituencies based on population, people will not clamour for restructuring.”
He disclosed that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration had positioned Delta State with good governance that the people are no longer looking at ethnicity of senatorial districts but, see themselves, first as Deltans in their actions.
“What Governor Okowa is doing today in tackling all the anomalies can be called restructuring; he is restructuring the mind of the jobless youths through job and wealth creation, he is restructuring the civil service by constructing a secretariat that will accommodate all the MDAs (Ministries, Departments and Agencies), he is restructuring the state by providing infrastructure in all parts of the state, including the creeks that ordinarily were no go areas,” he said.
He observed that Governor Okowa has done so much in terms of providing infrastructure and peace-building in the state, assuring that it can only be better as the Governor continues to “work, work and work because he is a man who believes that he is elected to work for the people.”
