Delta Central, Senator Ede Dafinone (Centre) mark second anniversary in office by commissioning several ICT centres and donating vital equipment to schools

SAPELE/Nigeria: In a bold move to improve educational standards in Delta Central, Senator Ede Dafinone has marked his two-year anniversary in office by commissioning several ICT centres and donating vital equipment to schools. The initiative, which highlights the importance of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in education, seeks to enhance the quality of learning for both students and teachers across the Urhobo nation.

The newly established ICT centres are aimed at cultivating computer literacy among both students and educators. Among the schools benefiting from these upgrades are Ogor Technical School, Orhuwhorhun High School, and Urhobo College. Sapele Technical School also received a facelift, with renovations to classroom blocks and the provision of technical study equipment. A key part of the initiative also included the installation of a 500KVA transformer at Dafinone Road, Ward 1, to improve power supply in the area.

At the commissioning events, Senator Dafinone stressed the importance of educational development for the future of the Urhobo people. “The development of our children is a critical assignment that both the state and federal government must prioritize, ensuring that Urhobo maintains its leading position in the country,” he stated. He further emphasized his commitment to lifting the Urhobo people to the top tier of national development.

Dafinone also underscored the significance of ICT facilities in educational institutions, saying, “Our children must be equipped to compete nationally and internationally. Without ICT training, they will struggle to thrive in a connected world.” Highlighting the growing importance of remote work, he stressed that the youth must be prepared to seize opportunities in this increasingly digital era.

The Senator also pointed out the inadequacies in current educational facilities, calling for increased involvement from the private sector and alumni in supporting their former schools. He further stated that one ICT centre per school is insufficient and advocated for every classroom to be equipped with computers to meet modern educational needs. Dafinone envisions expanding the reach of ICT across all local government areas in Delta Central by 2025, with substantial budget allocations for 2024 and 2025.

At Ogor Technical School, Principal Mr. Akanbi Oyewone expressed gratitude to Dafinone for the donation of computers and digital blackboards, noting the significant impact these resources would have on the school’s educational system. Similarly, at Orhuwhorhun High School, Mrs. Margaret Iwhiwhu praised the Senator for his initiative, acknowledging the positive reaction from parents whose children now have access to modern technology.

Mr. Charles Owonogor, Principal of Urhobo College, also extended his thanks to Dafinone for the ICT centre, which he said would significantly aid students in preparing for external examinations. At Sapele Technical School, Principal Mrs. Itanwansa Rosemary appreciated the renovation of classrooms and the provision of technical equipment, particularly for the electrical engineering laboratory, which will enhance practical training.

Students from all the schools expressed their excitement about the introduction of ICT equipment, which they believe will better equip them for future academic and professional challenges. Senator Dafinone’s focus on technology-driven education highlights his commitment to ensuring that the next generation of Urhobo students is prepared for the global workforce.

In addition to the educational developments, Dafinone also commissioned the 500KVA transformer at Dafinone Road, Ward 1, as part of his ongoing efforts to fulfill his campaign promises. Residents in the area voiced their appreciation, with Comr. Justice Erikefe stating, “We appreciate the Senator’s efforts and recognize that the dividends of democracy must address the needs of the people.”
