ISELE-UKU/Nigeria: The All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State on Wednesday hosted the Senator representing Delta North, Senator Ned Munir Nwoko, in a high-level strategic meeting aimed at fostering grassroots unity and repositioning the party for future political strength.
Held at the APC secretariat in Issele-Uku, the meeting brought together party executives, elders, and key stakeholders who unanimously declared their support for Senator Nwoko, commending his consistency and renewed commitment to the party’s growth.
Addressing the gathering, Senator Nwoko expressed deep appreciation to the Aniocha North APC family for their resilience and loyalty over the years. He assured them of a new era of political unity, promising to protect the party from internal sabotage and factionalism.
“I appreciate your sacrifices in building and sustaining this party through thick and thin,” Nwoko said. “Whatever I tolerated in the past, from where I’m coming, that gave room for disrespect and sabotage will no longer be allowed. The APC is one family. But for the record, if there’s ever any talk of factions, I am with Mr. President.”
The meeting took a decisive turn when Michael Osionye Chinye, a former APC State Publicity Secretary from Ward 7, moved a motion for a vote of confidence on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Delta State Governor, and Senator Ned Nwoko. The motion was seconded by former councillor Anslem Odiakaose and received unanimous support from those present.
Speaking passionately, Dr. Anthonia Ashiedu, former Delta State Commissioner for Micro Credit and a prominent political figure in Anioma, praised Senator Nwoko’s political maturity and influence, describing him as an asset to Aniocha North and the entire Anioma nation.
“We have a duty to support our Senator, and we have a duty to support Anioma,” she said. “Wherever you find yourself, church, market, or village meetings, talk about Anioma and why we need our own state. We are too unique to be diminished.”
She dismissed the fears being circulated over the agitation for Anioma State, clarifying that identity concerns linked to geopolitical zoning should not hinder the region’s aspirations. “We’ve coexisted peacefully with various cultures and tribes here in Delta and have still maintained our uniqueness. So when did we begin to struggle with this inferiority complex?” she asked.
Dr. Ashiedu also emphasized the strategic value Senator Nwoko brings to the region. “Senator Ned is more than just a senator; he is a blessing to Aniocha North and the entire Anioma. Show me one leader from this locality who has the kind of access to the President that Senator Ned has. There’s none! Let’s protect him and stand firmly behind him.”
She urged all APC members to be vocal advocates for the creation of Anioma State, insisting it was crucial for the socio-political advancement of the Anioma people.
The meeting was chaired by the Aniocha North APC Chairman, Sir Matthew Chinye, who reiterated the LGA’s unwavering loyalty to the APC and to Senator Nwoko’s leadership. He praised the Senator for his outreach and commitment to unity, saying the visit had reenergized the party’s base in the area.
