ABUJA/Nigeria: Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), bringing an end to his long-standing membership in the party he helped establish in 1999.
In a resignation letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 8 in Aniocha North Local Government Area and dated January 30, 2025, Senator Nwoko attributed his decision to the deepening divisions and factional crises within the party, which he said had made it increasingly difficult to promote unity and the collective interests of his constituents.
The senator noted that the situation had reached an alarming low, citing an incident on January 29, 2025, where key party functionaries engaged in a physical altercation—an indication of the irreconcilable differences plaguing the party’s structure in the state.
While expressing gratitude to the PDP for providing him the platform to contest the 2022/2023 senatorial election, Nwoko lamented that the party’s internal challenges had hindered his ability to fulfill the promises he made to the people of Delta North. He emphasized that his commitment to delivering on his electoral mandate remained firm, but the prevailing atmosphere within the party had made it untenable for him to do so effectively.
“After careful consideration, I have come to the conclusion that stepping away from the PDP is necessary to uphold my obligations to my constituents and to continue serving them in the best possible way,” he stated.
Despite his exit from the party, Senator Nwoko reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the progress and unity of Delta North, stressing that his decision was guided by the best interests of the people. He thanked the PDP leadership and members for their past support and wished the party continued success in its future endeavors.
