KANO/Nigeria: A casual poolside gathering in Kano turned into an unforgettable experience for a group of young artists when Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko, a key member of the Senate Special Committee on Constitutional Review, surprised them with his warmth and accessibility.

During a retreat focused on Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution, Senator Nwoko, alongside other Senators of the Federal Republic, engaged the youths in friendly banter, going as far as sharing his personal phone number, reaffirming his reputation for openness and mentorship.

One of the young men, hailing from Delta State, expressed joy and disbelief at the Senator’s approachable demeanor. Nwoko’s commitment to youth development was on full display, exemplified by his ongoing support for 250 students currently on full scholarships at his Sports University in Delta State. The Senator’s actions reinforced his long-standing dedication to nurturing the next generation.

As discussions at the retreat continue, a palpable sense of optimism surrounds the gathering. The event, attended by ranking senators, members of the House of Representatives, and key stakeholders, focuses on the crucial task of reviewing and amending the 1999 Constitution. High-profile attendees, including several former governors and seasoned lawmakers, lent weight to the deliberations.

Senator Nwoko, fondly known as Odogwu Anioma, played a pivotal role in the dialogue, particularly regarding the creation of Anioma State, a pressing issue tied to equity and representation within the Nigerian federation.

Led by the Deputy Senate President, representing the Senate President, the retreat’s first technical session saw a robust exchange of ideas. With critical governance reforms on the table, participants were filled with anticipation, hoping for amendments that would reshape Nigeria’s democratic framework and address long-standing constitutional gaps. The presence and engagement of influential lawmakers like Senator Nwoko have heightened hopes for meaningful reforms that could redefine the future of governance in Nigeria.
