Senior Political Adviser Explains Why Okowa Was Appointed Chairman of PDP National Convention Planning Committee ….Says APC has not Shown Leadership

Senior Political Adviser to the Delta State Governor, Chief Festus Ochonogor

ASABA/Nigeria: The Senior Political Adviser to the Delta State Governor, Chief Festus Ochonogor has described the emergence of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, as the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, National Convention Planning Committee as a good indication of the capacities of Deltans to deliver at all level.

Speaking to journalists at his office in Asaba, the state capital, Chief Ochonogor further advanced the reasons why governor Okowa was chosen for two consecutive times in that capacity, noting that the December 9th, 2017 convention is sensitive and will be driven by the people.

He explained that the choice of Governor Okowa as the Chairman of the Convention Committee was purely based on his experiences he has garnered over time, maintaining that he has the reach and the organisational skills to pull people together.

“That is the capacity he will bring to bear and we have to pray for him to succeed. We are happy that our governor is being recognised nationally, he is going to provide leadership and it will also tell on the capacity of the state to provide leadership.” Ochonogor said.

On the forthcoming local government election in the state, the Political Adviser vowed that the PDP led state government will not encourage buying of votes, noting that the Okowa led administration will make Delta a model.

“Our engagement with the people is yielding results already. The level of inter ethnic relationship has been enhanced greatly because of the leadership style of the governor.”

Continuing; “We are reaching out to the electorate through massive campaign. The campaign is enabling us as a party in government to assess ourselves and our level of cohesion as a party. The Okowa led government has done well and by God grace PDP will win the 25 Chairmanship positions and the 456 wards in the state.” He added.

Chief Ochonogor however, explained that the defection of Hon. Cairo Ojougboh from the PDP to the All Progressive Congress APC, is inconsequential and of no threat to the PDP in the state.

Hear him; “Cairo is not a threat in Delta State and we are not worried about him. He never started with us in the PDP and no surprise that he left midway. PDP led government in the state is consolidating. We now have direct contacts with the various communities, youth groups, focused groups and non indigene groups through constant interactions.”

He said the PDP has what it takes in terms of human resources to win the 2019 presidential election, saying the PDP is getting stronger with more people joining the fold.

“PDP will take over in 2019 because APC has not shown leadership, for two years they have not been able to organise a convention as a party so it is a sign of a failed party.”
