ABUJA/Nigeria: Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central Senatorial District, has reflected on Vice-President Kashim Shettima’s transition from the banking sector to the highest levels of public leadership as the Vice-President marks his 60th birthday.
Dafinone, in a goodwill message personally signed by him, described Shettima’s public service trajectory as significant, citing his years as a banker, Governor of Borno State, senator and, ultimately, Vice-President of Nigeria.
He particularly recalled Shettima’s tenure as governor of Borno State, noting that he led the state during a difficult period characterised by serious security and socio-economic challenges.
According to Dafinone, the experience exposed Shettima to some of the complex issues confronting the country and provided a foundation for his subsequent responsibilities at the national level.
The senator also acknowledged Shettima’s role in the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly in matters relating to governance, economic management and the implementation of the administration’s development agenda.
Dafinone said Shettima’s experience across different areas of public service had positioned him to contribute to efforts aimed at strengthening the economy, promoting national unity and advancing Nigeria’s development.
He said the Vice-President’s 60th birthday offered an opportunity to recognise his years of service and commitment to the country, while wishing him continued good health, wisdom and fulfilment.
Shettima, who was born on September 2, 1966, turns 60 on Wednesday. Reports ahead of the milestone birthday said he had opted for a low-key observance and urged friends, associates and well-wishers to avoid elaborate celebrations and instead devote the occasion to prayers and worthwhile causes.
Dafinone said he joined the Vice-President’s family, associates and Nigerians in marking the milestone and wished him many more years of productive service to the nation.
