KOKO/Nigeria: A tragic incident has thrown Koko community in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State into mourning following the alleged murder of a young woman, identified simply as Egwolo, believed to be a student of Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara.
According to multiple local sources, the deceased, said to be in her early twenties and a native of Owakwa village in Ughelli South Local Government Area, was discovered dead in a hotel room under suspicious circumstances.
Contrary to earlier reports circulating on social media suggesting the victim was beheaded, the Public Enlightenment Officer of the Delta State Ministry of Information confirmed that Egwolo was stabbed to death. “She was not beheaded as being speculated. The report is false. She was found with a stab wound,” the official clarified.
Residents who spoke to reporters described the incident as both heartbreaking and horrifying. “The girl should be about twenty or twenty-one years old. It’s painful that such a promising life could end this way. We just hope those responsible face justice,” a resident said.
Another source, identified as MoG, alleged that the deceased was lured to Koko by a man believed to be her “sugar daddy,” who reportedly owns both a transportation company and the hotel where the tragedy occurred.
According to the account, the man allegedly spent time with the young woman upon her arrival before leaving for his residence in the same community. “We heard that when he went back to check on her the next morning, he met her lying lifeless in a pool of blood with a stab wound on her neck,” the source recounted.
Another eyewitness alleged that the hotel receptionist on duty fled the premises after the owner discovered the gruesome scene, raising further suspicion over the circumstances surrounding the murder.
Confirming the incident, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Koko Division, Lukman Olaogun, said investigations were already underway. “Investigation is in progress on the case, madam. We assure you that justice will speak soon,” he stated.
As of press time, the body of the deceased had been deposited at the Koko General Hospital mortuary, while detectives continued their investigation to unravel those behind the crime.
Residents of Koko community have since called on the Delta State Police Command and other relevant authorities to ensure a thorough probe and bring the perpetrators to justice without delay.
