Shun Cyber Crime, Okowa Admonishes ICT-YEP Beneficiaries

ASABA/Nigeria: Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has urged beneficiaries of the Information and Communication Technology Youth Empowerment Program (ICT-YEP), to develop a high level of seriousness, be focused in engaging with the wider society, engage themselves on how best they can improve on ICT’s as well as shun the use of internet for making mischief and committing cybercrimes.

The Governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Comrade Ifeanyi Egwunyenga stated, ” ICT will help you build and maintain social networks, capable of providing access to knowledge and know- how on virtually all meaningful business, opportunities and creativity, capable of making you expand the frontiers of knowledge by creating novel ways of using the internet in a much better, secure and faster way”.

Governor Okowa advised them to use the knowledge acquired for meaningful engagement and urged them to challenge themselves on how best they can improve on those things which will help them soar higher

“Go out there and convince both the Delta State Government and the people that the resources put into this training is word the sacrifice,” he stated.

In her opening remark, the Commissioner, Ministry of Science and Technology, Mrs Jennifer Adasen, stated 593 youths were selected from the three senatorial districts of the state.

She stated that “the essence of the training program is to build a community of youths with the right skills, to start their own business and become self sufficient”.

According to her the distribution of starter packs pilot phase began with Delta North.

In their different remarks, the Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, the Chief Job Creation Officer of  Bureau for Job and Wealth Creation, Professor Eric Eboh, The Executive Assistant to the Governor on Export Initiative / Coordinator United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO)  Mrs Shimite Bello, congratulated the beneficiaries , urged them to keep up the zeal to become an entrepreneur, take seriously the knowledge and skills gained during the training and be steadfast in all they do.
