SAPELE/Nigeria: Tragedy had struck in the home of a single mother of two in Sapele, Delta State claiming the life of the two children.
It was gathered that the single mother left her two children at home and went to trade her dates at a nearby hotel that has a night club.
It was also gathered that before she went to trade her wares, she lit a candle stick in her house as there was no power.
The candle stick melted and ignited materials in the room, at this time, her children were fast asleep.
The inferno rage on and entered the adjoining room were the occupant has a small gas cylinder that later exploded, burning her two children beyond recognition.
When newsmen visited the next morning, they gathered that a relation that was in the room with the children was rescued with some degree of burnt and taken to the hospital.
An eye witness that pleaded animosity said they were watching television two buildings away from the incident when a child ran to them shouting that there is fire in a nearby building, all effort to put the fire off was to no avail but were able to rescue one person, before they could put off the fire, there was an explosion.
It took the effort of the state fire service to stop the fire and prevent it from spreading to other rooms at the compound where the single mother resides adding that as at the time of visit, the charred remains of the children have not been removed.
Newsmen were told that the incident took place on Saturday night at about 9.00pm and lasted till about 10.00pm; it was said that no one was in the compound at the time of the incident to compliment the eye witness account.
The incident happened at a building located directly opposite Food land Eatery and the hotel that the single mother went to sell her wares is Kelly Hotel located along Akintola Road.
All attempt to reach the single mother and Police to comment on the incident proved abortive.
