The Director-General of Industrial training fund, Dr.Mrs Juliet Chukka-Onaeko(MFR) has stressed that skill acquisition is a path to tackle the myriad of problems including poverty, unemployment and youth restiveness that endangers our society today.
The Director-General stated this at the 6th Industrial Training Fund management retreat held recently at Grand Hotel Asaba, she noted that Industrial training fund is an organization vested with efforts to equip Nigerians with entrepreneurial skills, adding that the national industrial skill development programme have trained over 35,000 youths nationwide, through other programmes over hundreds of thousands of youths have been trained as efforts to alleviate poverty in the country.
However, Mrs.Onaeko stressed that the manpower requirements of the federal governments transformational agenda requires that they should do more, she noted that she has the mandate to train 2million youths annually, stressing that the task will be easier with the continuous support of governments and goodwill of the organized private sector through patronage of the training programmes and prompt remittance of training contributions. She mentioned that the ability to succeed as a cooperate body is dependent on their willingness to accept a change, she stated that the theme of this retreat “mastering the art of leading change” was carefully chosen and will be dealt with by Howes Consulting Group for their track record.
DSTG Committed to Transform the State Economy.
The Executive governor of Delta state, His Excellency Dr.Emmanuel .E.Uduaghan has stated the government’s commitment to transforming the state economy to thrive beyond reliance on oil. The governor stated this at the opening ceremony of the 6th Industrial training fund management retreat held at Grand hotel Asaba recently.
In his address, Gov.Uduaghan noted that they are doing conscientious implementation of the three point agenda, which are encapsulated in peace and security, human capital development and infrastructure development, adding that the theme; ”Leadership and leading change” is apt and timely as it will enable the stakeholders discuss critical issues of leadership and accomplishment of change.
The governor emphasized that Mrs.Onaeko Chukka is a trusted and tested hand that will lead the organization to a higher ground, emphasizing more that Delta state government identified with the I.T.F, because its programmes are in line with the social and economic empowerment programme already in progress in Delta state, and skill acquisition with job creation are central to our human capital development strategy and the economic development of the state.
However the governor urged the management and staff of the Industrial training fund to sensitize our people on their activities, especially the skills acquisition programmes, under the national industrial skill development programme, which is good response to the burning national issues of poverty alleviation and capacity building to tackle youth unemployment, adding that the government hoped that very soon, the youths in Delta state will have the opportunity to benefit from the funds programmes.
