Snipers allegation: Security agencies may quiz Obasanjo

obasanjo-24122013The office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) has taken over the investigations into allegations by former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, in his letter to President Goodluck Jonathan that the Federal Government was training snipers for political opponents.

President Jonathan had, in his response to Obasanjo’s letter, confirmed that the allegation had been referred to security agencies.

It was confirmed in Abuja, on Monday, that the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) was coordinating the investigation, which would involve direct interaction with Obasanjo.

“One of the agencies handling the investigation has been mandated to go to the required length and interact with all necessary parties.

“The investigation will involve direct interactions with the former president, who will have to substantiate the information he made to the public,” a source said.

The source further added that Obasanjo would be treated like any other Nigerian in the investigation.

“There is nothing that says a VIP cannot be interrogated. What the law says is that every citizen must operate within the norms of the society.

“I can assure you that respected leaders have been so interrogated and handled appropriately,” another source added.
