Soludo Fulfils Promise as COOUTH Doctors Receive Residency Training Fund

Dr Joy Okwumuo, ARD-COOUTH

AWKA/Nigeria: The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH) has confirmed that its members have received the Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF) from the Anambra State Government.

Dr. Joy Okwumuo, President of ARD-COOUTH, announced the development on Thursday in Awka, commending Governor Chukwuma Soludo for keeping his word.

The doctors had embarked on a three-day warning strike from September 11 to 13, which was suspended after the governor intervened and pledged to pay the MRTF while also approving an upward review of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS).

“On behalf of ARD-COOUTH members, I confirm that the Soludo administration has commenced MRTF payments. We are grateful for this and for the approval of the CONMESS review, both of which will improve our working conditions,” Dr. Okwumuo said.

She further expressed optimism that other pending demands would soon be addressed. “We hope there will be recruitment of more doctors and House Officers to help mitigate the impact of brain drain on the hospital,” she added.

The ARD President reaffirmed the association’s commitment to supporting the Soludo administration’s healthcare reforms and policies aimed at strengthening medical services in Anambra State.
