AWKA/Nigeria: Wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has made a passionate appeal to political leaders and kind-hearted Nigerians to show compassion and respond to the needs of the vulnerable in society.
Dr. Soludo, who is also the founder of the Healthy Living Initiative, made the call on Friday while celebrating her 55th birthday with a series of hospital visits where she paid the medical bills of 200 patients.
The humanitarian gesture took her to three hospitals across the state , Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital in Awka, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital in Nnewi, and the General Hospital in Okpoko — where she interacted with patients, offered prayers, and extended financial support.
Addressing journalists after the visits, Dr. Soludo said the outreach was part of her lifelong tradition of marking birthdays not with lavish celebrations but by reaching out to the sick and underprivileged.
“I urge political leaders and compassionate individuals to take time to bring joy to the vulnerable in our society, regardless of how small the gesture,” she said. “Making someone smile often costs nothing; sometimes, just being present is enough. Even helping an elderly woman find a place to rest is an act of love.”
She noted that the essence of human existence lies in love, compassion, and selfless service, stressing that birthdays should be occasions for reflection and giving back.
“For me, this reflects the true meaning of human existence — showing love, offering hope, and bringing smiles to people’s faces. Bringing happiness to others is my greatest source of joy, and that is all I need to feel fulfilled,” she added.
The First Lady’s outreach drew admiration from hospital staff and beneficiaries who described her visit as timely and deeply impactful.
According to Dr. Soludo, leadership should not be measured by wealth or titles, but by the ability to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
She reaffirmed her commitment to using every opportunity, including personal milestones, to spread love, hope, and relief to those in need.
