IDUMUJE-UGBOKO/Nigeria: The Sports University of Nigeria (SUN), Idumuje-Ugboko, Delta State, on Thursday, March 6, 2025, held its first-ever matriculation ceremony, officially welcoming 98 pioneer students into its academic community.
The combined matriculation for the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 sets marked a major milestone in the institution’s vision to redefine sports education in Nigeria and Africa.
Chancellor and Founder of the university, Senator Prince Ned Nwoko, described the event as a landmark achievement in the quest to revolutionize sports education.
“As Founder and Chancellor, I am proud to see this vision come to life—an institution where young talents seamlessly balance academics with professional sports training, developing holistically as both scholars and athletes,” Nwoko stated via his X (Twitter) handle.
He reiterated that the university was designed to nurture future champions and intellectuals who would not only excel in sports but also make meaningful contributions to society on a global scale.
The newly admitted students were urged to uphold the institution’s core values of discipline, dedication, and excellence while embracing the rare opportunity to merge quality education with professional sports development.
With this historic matriculation, SUN has set the pace as Nigeria’s first sports-focused university, committed to grooming a new generation of athletes and scholars.
