Stabbed Delta commissioner in intensive care
THE Delta State Commissioner for Secondary and Basic Education, Prof. Patrick Muoboghare, who was attacked and severally stabbed in the chest on Saturday by aggrieved youths of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at Uwheru community in Ughelli North Local Council, Delta State, is believed to have been rushed to an hospital (name withheld) where he has been placed under intensive care, The Guardian gathered.
The Guardian learnt Sunday that the commissioner is alive and responding to treatment.
Irate PDP youths from the commissioner’s community, Uwheru, attacked the commissioner as violence broke out during the inauguration of PDP ward executives in the area over the list of persons to form the executive.
The Guardian gathered that the youths had laid ambush waiting for the PDP leaders but the commissioner was the only top dignitary within their reach. They pounced on him beating him, some stabbed him while others were believed to have used machete on him.
It was learnt that some PDP leaders in the area who are eager to occupy the senatorial post declared vacant following the demise of Senator Pius Ewherido, which allegedly inflamed the youths, manipulated a list of executive in the ward.
Some PDP chieftains, who arrived at the venue when the attack took place but could not come to the aid of the commissioner, included Dr. Steve Oru, Chief Terry Noah, Chief Fred Majemite, Chief Benson Asore and Chief Ovie Agas, among others.
Despite the attack, The Guardian gathered that the PDP leaders still re-grouped at the vandalised secretariat of the party where they eventually inaugurated the controversial ward executive council.
