Stakeholder Advocates Timely Response To Emergencies In Schools

EKU/Nigeria: The need for effective and timely response to emergency situations in schools aimed at safeguarding the lives of students and teachers as well as protects school facilities has been stressed.

The Delta State Executive Director of Afro Centre for Development, Peace and Justice, Augusta Keneboh stated this at Inweh Primary School and Patmon Group of Schools in Eku, Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state during Safe School Declaration implementation programme.

Keneboh said that the programme was being supported by the Development Research Project Centre and Forɗ Foundation, disclosed that the initiative was also geared towards preventing violence and ensure continuous recovery and carry out learning activities in a conductive environment.

She said that it was important to always communicate with emergency signs with those who could help whenever there were security concerns around them, adding that the children should contact their parents, community leaders and security agents with a view to averting such threatening situation.

The executive director stated that Safe School Declaration was an international organisation commitment to providing countries with the opportunity to express support for protecting learners, education personnel, schools and universities from attack during times of armed conflict.

She noted that measures should be taken to deter security forces from using schools as a base whereby obstructing, preventing learning.
