ASABA/Nigeria: Former Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Prof. Emmanuel Nwanze, has extended congratulations to Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on his recent triumph as the Supreme Court validates his victory in the March 2023 Gubernatorial election.
As the Supreme Court, on Friday, January 19, 2024, upheld the Appeal Court’s judgment in favor of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, affirming him as the duly elected Governor of Delta State, Prof. Nwanze, who formerly chaired the Governor’s 88-Man Transition Committee, lauds the judiciary’s decision.
In a press statement released on Thursday, January 25, 2024, in Asaba, the Delta State capital, Prof. Nwanze commended the Supreme Court Judges for their excellent judgment, expressing satisfaction with the affirmation of Governor Oborevwori’s victory.
Prof. Nwanze, a distinguished Emeritus Professor of Biochemistry, and current Pro-chancellor of the University of Delta, Agbor, acknowledged the legal victory on behalf of the Governing Council, Senate, Staff, and students of the University. His significant role in the establishment of three new universities during former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s regime highlights his influence in Delta State’s education sector.
The congratulatory statement by Prof. Nwanze reads in part, “On Friday, 19th Day of January, 2024, in line with the Judgment of Appeal Court, the Supreme Court has affirmed Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori as the Executive Governor of Delta State by a five-man panel of Supreme Court Judges. Your Excellency Sir, What a great news to hear of your recent Supreme Court Victory which affirmed you as the duly elected Governor of Delta State, I use this medium to congratulate you on your well-deserved Supreme Court Victory.”
He goes on to commend the Nigerian Judiciary and the Supreme Court Judges for their excellent judgment. Prof. Nwanze expresses gratitude to Deltans, the PDP family, and all stakeholders for their unwavering support to Governor Oborevwori and his administration.
Acknowledging the governor’s commitment to the M.O.R.E Agenda Policy, Prof. Nwanze states, “In fact, you have shown capacity and strength, wisdom and knowledge as you have continuously, strategically and tactfully worked towards the implementation of the Committee’s full reports as recommended by the 88-Man Transition Committee which I chaired as the Chairman.”
In closing, Prof. Nwanze wishes Governor Oborevwori a successful tenure, offering prayers for divine guidance, wisdom, and grace to lead the state to greater heights. He concludes, “We pray the good Lord guide your paths and help you to make right decisions that will give every Deltan the needed democratic dividends all through your regime as Governor of Delta State.”
