KOKO JUNCTION/Nigeria: In the wake of the tragic fire explosion that occurred on October 1st at Koko Junction along the Benin-Warri route, one of the survivors, Mr. Samuel Orerhime, has issued a heartfelt plea to the Delta State Government and compassionate individuals for financial support to cover his mounting hospital expenses as he fights for his life.
Mr. Orerhime, a commercial driver en route to Oghara at the time of the calamity, has been undergoing medical treatment to recover from the devastating incident. Speaking on behalf of the victim, his brother, Mr. Felix Eseoghene, expressed his anguish while recounting the incident.
According to Mr. Eseoghene, his brother was initially rushed to a nearby hospital in Ologbo, Edo State, by Good Samaritans before being transferred to the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara. Subsequently, Mr. Orerhime was referred to Enofes Medicals and Health Limited, Oghara, where he currently receives ongoing treatment.
As they cling to hope and pray for a miracle, Mr. Eseoghene earnestly implored the Delta State Government to extend their support, stressing that they have already expended significant resources. He revealed that the hospital expenses, which continue to escalate, are estimated at approximately N1.5 million, including costs for materials needed to address the severe burns suffered by Mr. Orerhime.
Hon. Oghenedoro Owoso, Chairman of Ethiope West Council, visited the hospital to witness the victim’s condition firsthand. Expressing deep sorrow over the incident and the victim’s plight, Owoso assured the family of his support and vowed to approach the state government for assistance, despite providing immediate aid from his own resources.
Mr. Daniel Nana, the victim’s brother’s landlord, acknowledged the family’s commendable efforts to cover the treatment costs. However, given the extent of Mr. Orerhime’s injuries, he emphasized that the family’s resources are insufficient. Mr. Nana urged both the state and federal governments to expedite the repair of the deteriorated road to prevent future incidents of this nature.
The heartfelt appeal from Mr. Samuel Orerhime and his family underscores the urgent need for collective support to aid his recovery as they grapple with the aftermath of the Ugbenu-Oghara fire explosion.
