
ASABA/Nigeria: The National Leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has conferred an Award of Excellence in Sports Development on the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor.
At a brief ceremony in Asaba on Tuesday, the association also decorated the Speaker as an Associate Member of SWAN, granting him all rights and privileges of membership.
In his address, SWAN National President, Comrade Isaiah Benjamin, commended Rt. Hon. Guwor for his consistent dedication to promoting sporting activities in Delta State and his collaboration with sports journalists across the country. He described the honour as a recognition of the Speaker’s contributions to sports development and an encouragement to do more for the sector.
Benjamin recalled SWAN’s last national convention held in Asaba, noting that Guwor’s support was instrumental to its success. He also hailed the Speaker’s leadership style in the 8th Assembly, pledging the association’s continued support to the legislature.
In his response, Rt. Hon. Guwor, who also serves as National Treasurer of the Conference of Speakers of State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria, expressed delight over the recognition. He described himself as a passionate lover of sports and thanked SWAN for acknowledging his contributions.
The Speaker reaffirmed his commitment to building sustainable partnerships with SWAN and other stakeholders in advancing sports development. “This honour will spur me to ensure increased participation in sporting activities in Delta and beyond,” Guwor stated.
He further assured that under his leadership, the 8th Assembly would continue to support initiatives aimed at strengthening sports development across the state.
The ceremony also witnessed the presence of several members of the Delta State House of Assembly, including Honourables Edafe Emakpor, Prince Emeka Osamuta, Marilyn Okowa-Daramola, Benson Obire, Matthew Omonade, and Anthony Alapala. Guwor was decorated with his Associate Membership badge by the SWAN South-South Vice Chairman, Azuka Chiemeke, while the National President, Isaiah Benjamin, presented him with the Award of Excellence in Sports Development.
