INEC National Commissioner for South-South, supervising Edo, Delta and Cross Rivers Prof Rhoda Gumus, noticed an upsurge in number of people at the Oshimilli South and Anoicha North CVR points, describing the trend as an attempt to beat the deadline.

Prof. Gumus, while calling on the public to utilize the window for registrations stated any attempt to extend the June 30 closing of the forth and final quarter of CVR might affect INEC timetable for the coming elections.

“This exercise has been up to one year and there is no way we can extend it. I think that we will follow exactly what we have already put in place.”

Meanwhile, a registrant Ezekiel Godfrey, said he only recently head about the voters card application.

“I have been in the country, I just heard about it recently because some people were posting you can do your PVC online then finish it up here.”

Other applicants made observations about their challenges including inadequate registration device, shortage of manpower and lateness to duty by INEC officials as some of the bottlenecks in the exercise.

“The number of persons as you can see here trying to do the same thing, you just have only one or two persons attending to them and it has made the process cumbersome. Most of the people here have been coming for the past three, four days.”

“I booked my appointment online for 9:15am, they said we should be here before 9:15am. Since I came the office has not opened.”

The INEC National Commissioner also inspected the commission’s facilities in the district accompanied by the Resident Electoral Commissioner Pastor Monday Udoh-Tom.
