ASABA/Nigeria: Motorists across Delta State have again been reminded of the need to have their valid driver’s license and vehicle particulars on them each time they use the roads as the Taskforce on Road Taxes and Revenue Leakages will not relent in enforcing compliance with relevant road tax laws in the state.
This charge was given yesterday by the State Coordinator of the Revenue Task Force, Mr. Malachi Monye while playing host to members of the Delta State Human Rights Protection Congress, DST-HRPC, at the Revenue House, Warri.
Mr Monye noted that the taskforce was the only recognized one set up by the state government to assist the State Internal Revenue Service to checkmate the activities of illegal road tax collectors.
He said that it was also to ensure that motorists complied with the compulsory legal requirement of having a valid driver’s license and vehicle registration particulars in the state.
The taskforce coordinator revealed that public announcements and other forms of sensitization had been carried out prior to the commencement of the work of the taskforce.
He stressed that there would be no sacred cows in its enforcement drive and advised motorists in the state to cooperate with the taskforce in ensure that its objectives were met.
Speaking earlier, the Patron and leader of the delegation of the Delta State Human Rights Protection Congress, DST-HRPC, Pastor Edewor Egedegbe commended the warm reception accorded his team by Mr. Moye.
He explained that the purpose of the visit was to get clarification on the operation of the taskforce with regards to safety of road users, as well as possible infringement on the rights of citizens in the course of enforcement.
While expressing satisfaction with the explanation given by the taskforce coordinator, Pastor Egedegbe advised that continuous sensitization exercises be carried out to enable citizens have better understanding of the activities of the taskforce.
