ASABA/Nigeria: As the 22nd National Sports Festival, “Gateway Games,” set to hold in Ogun State draws closer, Team Delta is once again proving its supremacy in Nigerian sports, securing qualification in 12 out of 16 team sports at the South-South zonal eliminations in Benin City, Edo State.
Director of Public Relations, Delta State Sports Commission, Franka Okonma, in a statement, confirmed that Team Delta clinched tickets in both male and female categories for football, handball, basketball, hockey, and cricket, alongside volleyball (male) and abula (female & mixed doubles).
Reacting to the team’s impressive qualification, Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Mr. Onoriode Oborevwori, expressed delight at the performance, noting that it has reaffirmed Delta’s dominance in Nigerian sports. He assured that the state is fully prepared to defend its title and maintain its reputation as the undisputed champion of the festival.
Oborevwori, however, urged the athletes and coaches to remain focused and avoid complacency, stressing the need for early camping to ensure optimal performance at the festival. “Team Delta is known for excellence, and we must continue to justify our status as Nigeria’s number one sporting state,” he said.
