LAGOS/Nigeria: In a significant move towards environmental sustainability and climate action, leading digital solutions company Tech Mahindra has joined hands with the Africa Clean-up Initiative (ACI) to plant 40 trees on behalf of MTN Nigeria.
The tree planting exercise, a part of Tech Mahindra’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, took place on Thursday at Government Senior Model College, Badore, Ajah, a suburb of Lagos. Mr. Subrat Mansingh, Regional Sales Head at Tech Mahindra, emphasized the company’s commitment to giving back to the environment.
“We have planted 40 trees in this school for the benefit of the students. We intend to do this monthly; we hope to supply tree samplings in various communities in Lagos to promote the grow green initiative,” Mansingh stated.
Highlighting Tech Mahindra’s previous CSR endeavors, Mansingh mentioned the company’s collaboration with MTN in 2023, where they planted 100 trees in India. He also announced plans for quarterly beach clean-ups, following the successful cleanup of Elegushi beach in January.
Mrs. Chibuzo Raphael-Daniels, an IT team member from MTN Nigeria, encouraged students to embrace environmental stewardship through tree planting. She expressed gratitude to Tech Mahindra for their contributions to humanity and the environment.
Mr. Elvis Umunna, Operations Lead for the African Clean-Up Initiative, lauded the partnership with Tech Mahindra, emphasizing the long-term benefits of reducing carbon footprints through tree planting. He thanked the school, Tech Mahindra, and MTN for their support.
Alhaja Azumi Ajikobi, the Principal of Government Senior Model College, expressed gratitude for the initiative, highlighting its positive impact on the school. She pledged to ensure the students’ active involvement in nurturing the planted trees.
The event, facilitated by MTN Nigeria IT under its Chief Information Officer (CIO), Shoyinka Shodunke, marks a significant step towards environmental conservation and community engagement in Lagos.
