SAPELE/Nigeria: There were skirmishes at Ibada- Amukpe Community in Sapele Local Government Area, as youths of the community fight dirty for leadership position.
It was gathered that the tenure led by Mr. Paul Umukoro, elapsed December 1 2021 but they do not want to hand over.
Speaking with Mr Freeborn, one of the youths seen at the scene of the skirmish said the issue was resolved last year when the Sapele Local Government Chairman, Hon. Eugene Okpe Inoaghan, invited them.
Having learnt that the executives has expired, he asked them to arrange to swear in a new government.
It was also agreed that a meeting should be held on the 19th of January 2022.
On the said date, the excos did not show up.
Yesterday, it was rumoured that a new exco will be sworn in today and true to the rumour they came with the intent to swear in their own executives, against the Elders opinion and the agreed norm that the chairmanship position should be rotated among the three quarters in the community.
In the process of trying to swear in their executives, argument ensue and Hon. Umukoro brought out dagger from his walking stick and stabbed the recommended Chairman severally.
He went further to matchet the father of the recommended chairman and his wife at their respective homes; hence the youths came out to challenge them.
As at the time of filing this report, police officers were seen at the community ensuring peace prevails but the youth are tensed, anticipating another attack when the police leaves at night.
The youths are insisting that the agreed arrangements be followed.
Hon. Paul Umukoro is from Okweragha quarters while the recommended Chairman, Mr. Andrew Idumudare is from Ukolomease quarters where the new Chairman ought to come from.
