The Recent Wave Of Defection To Apc, Delta State: Undermines The State Development For Personal Preservation

By Wisdom Ndisika
Following the recent massive defection of the former PDP stakeholders in Delta State including the state Governor Oborevwori, his predecessor Sen. Dr. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa, the deputy governor Sir Monday Onyeme, the local government chairmen and over 20 councilors and other PDP faithful raises a criticism of the leader’s personal preservation over the development of the state.
The ground for this criticism is most transparent when we reflect critically and correlate with the defector’s antecedents while in power, like the awaiting fraud case of that of the former governor of the state. Senator Dr. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa with the Economic Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) case of the alleged mismanagement of the states’ allocation derivational fund of 1.3trillion.
Though, some political analysts hold that Okowa’s recent action to annex in harmony with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and align with other APC faithful was a strategic loophole to evade the EFCC arrest and for self political preservation.
Pointing out the impending dangers that comes with this recent defection is the persona non granta attitudes between the APC existing structural stakeholders and the defectors structure of the PDP with their diverse political regardless of whatever congress that may arise still poses an issue.
Recalling on some of the instances between these actors were when the Delta North Senator Ned Nwoko accused governor Oborevwori of not being a performing governor and that he has not seen the light stressing that the governor was anti tactical to the development of his people.
The former deputy senate president and the APC 2023 gubernatorial candidate Senator Ovie Omo Agege who still nurishes the ambition of becoming the governor of Delta State has never being a fan of the current governor of the state and may not be willing to settle for less and with his federal myth, one would ask, who then will decide the tone of Deltans?
One who tells the former Deputy senate president Senator Ovie Omo Agege to jettison his gubernatorial ambition must therefore be ready to give gin some position equal or more than that which he has diligently worked and hoped for under the umbrella of the All progressive Congress.
The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Delta state is already imploding. Knowing fully well that Senator Ned Nwoko haven declared the governor Oborevwori a persona non granta would not want to remain under his beck and call.
The minister of Aviation and Aerospace Mr. Festus Keyamo who has not being in good terms with the former DSP Senator Ovie Omo Agege as well as the likes of other PDP stakeholders was seen busy in pretence welcoming governor Oborevwori and his cohorts into the All Progressive congress (APC) last week.
Narrow down to the ward structures, the former PDP detectors even those without the membership cards still holding on to the idea that their maximum party leaders and other stakeholders remains even while in the new party.
This singular action of diversity in political norms is looming and has gradually created division in places like Delta North ward 3, ward 6 among others.
One thing that is common amidst detection or mergers of strange bird fellows are no doubt the gathering of common enemies like a ticking time bomb only waiting for the right time to explode just like the case in APC in Delta state.
