WARRI/Nigeria: The Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council, Hon. Michael Tidi, visited victims of fire incident in Digbori Street, Essi layout Warri, Delta state Wednesday 29th, August 2018, to commiserate with them on the incident.
The President of the community, Mr Elvis Eboh, while explaining to the Chairman said the incident which occurred on 27th August, 2018 claimed the lives of two children and destroyed goods and properties.
Miss Elohor Moses, mother of one of the victims, said that the children were in care of her mother when the fire started, adding that there were six children in one wooden apartment.
According to Miss Moses, her mother who sustained injury in the process was able to rescue four, and it was unfortunate the other two children, Kesiena a four year old and Wealth a one year four months old child died in the fire.
The owner of the apartment, Mrs Rhode Ememo, in her statement said the fire might have been caused by the lighted candle in the apartment.
The Chairman, while commiserated with the family of the victims, advised them to desist from using candles but should use alternative rechargeable lamps.
He also encouraged the landlady to use blocks instead of wood in building houses to prevent reoccurrence.
Hon. Tidi pledged to assist the family of the victims to secure a befitting accommodation and also proper medical assistance.
