OBIARUKU/Nigeria: The Delta State Commissioner for Finance, Sir Okenmor Fidelis Tilije, has demonstrated his deep commitment to education and youth development by paying the school fees of 1,006 students of Model Technical College, Obiaruku, while also awarding full scholarships to all students of the institution.

Sir Tilije made the gesture during an official visit to the school on October 17, 2025, declaring that as long as he remains in service, the education of the students will continue to be his personal responsibility.

“As long as Jesus tarries, your school fees are under my care,” the Commissioner assured the jubilant students, teachers, and parents who gathered to receive him.

In a rare show of appreciation for the commitment of staff to teaching and mentorship, the Commissioner also extended personal gifts to all teaching and non-teaching staff, acknowledging their hard work and dedication to raising the next generation of leaders.

Tilije directed the school management to refund fees already paid by parents, ensuring that every student benefits from the gesture, regardless of financial background. He explained that his decision was driven by a desire to promote equal access to education and encourage excellence among students.

Addressing the students, Sir Tilije urged them to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to their studies, reminding them that every great leader started with humble beginnings.

“You must start preparing yourselves for the future now,” he advised. “Many of those in leadership positions today, including our dear Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, began just like you, as students. Focus, humility, and hard work will take you far.”

The Principal of the school, Mrs. Veronica Adaeze Eligbue, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Commissioner for what she described as an inspiring and selfless act of service to humanity.

“Sir Tilije’s gesture has lightened the burden on parents and boosted the morale of our students and teachers alike,” Mrs. Eligbue said. “This is leadership with compassion — leadership that truly makes a difference in people’s lives.”

The event ended on a joyous note as students, teachers, and parents cheered the Commissioner for his benevolence, describing the visit as a moment of hope and encouragement for the entire school community.
