ABUJA/Nigeria: Comrade Timi Frank, former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has lashed out at Chief Olabode George, a former Deputy National Chairman (South) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), over his recent remarks regarding the 2027 presidential election. George had stated that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar should not contest the presidency in 2027, suggesting that he should wait until 2031.
In a strongly worded statement issued in Abuja, Frank criticized George for what he termed an “ego trip” and “self-delusion,” asserting that George lacks the authority to determine who will become Nigeria’s president in 2027. Frank reminded George that he is not God and cannot decide Atiku’s political future if the former Vice President decides to run.
“How can a man living at the mercy of the Supreme Court assume the position of God?” Frank queried, referencing George’s 2009 conviction by a Lagos High Court on charges of abuse of office and contract splitting during his tenure as chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority. Although George was later acquitted by the Supreme Court in 2013, Frank questioned his moral standing to speak on national political matters.
Frank also took a swipe at George for his past predictions, noting that George had vowed that President Bola Tinubu would not win the 2023 presidential election and even pledged to renounce his Nigerian citizenship if Tinubu emerged victorious. Frank mocked George’s failed predictions and suggested that he was now trying to ingratiate himself with Tinubu for political favor.
“This is a man who swore that President Bola Tinubu would not win the 2023 presidential election,” Frank said. “Now that Tinubu is President, George should focus on enjoying his new ‘home’ instead of attacking Atiku to curry favor from the powers that be.”
Frank concluded by affirming that Atiku’s future lies in the hands of God and the Nigerian people, not in the opinions of individuals like George. “If God says Atiku will be President in 2027, a thousand Olabode Georges living on Supreme Court’s magnanimity cannot annul it,” he declared.
Frank urged George to rest easy, reminding him that Atiku has never needed his support to win the PDP primaries and that the former Vice President’s political destiny is not for George to decide.
