Tinubu Affirms Unity and Unveils Reform Agenda in 63rd Independence Anniversary Address

ABUJA/Nigeria: In a solemn yet hopeful address to the nation on the occasion of Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Anniversary, President Bola Tinubu reaffirmed the nation’s unity and outlined significant reforms aimed at steering the country towards a better future.

Emphasizing the importance of unity and the shared ideals of tolerance and justice that bind Nigerians together, President Tinubu acknowledged the challenges faced in maintaining a diverse and complex nation but asserted that Nigeria would endure and thrive. He celebrated the country’s commitment to democracy, noting the successful election of a 7th consecutive civilian government.

The President reiterated key promises made during his inauguration, including economic reforms and the end of the fuel subsidy. He explained that these reforms were essential to ensure a future where the nation’s abundance benefits all, not just a select few.

To alleviate the burden on citizens, President Tinubu announced several measures, including a provisional wage increment, infrastructure support funds for states, and the introduction of cheaper and safer Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses to lower transport costs.

Monetary policy reform was also highlighted, with the President emphasizing its benefit for all citizens, not just the wealthy. He stressed the importance of wise tax policies and unveiled a Committee on Tax Reforms to improve tax administration.

The President pledged support for employment and urban income growth, particularly in micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises. Additionally, he announced the expansion of cash transfer programs to 15 million more vulnerable households.

National security and the rebuilding of security service capacities were a top priority, with President Tinubu recognizing the sacrifices made by security forces. He also emphasized the commitment to fairness and inclusivity in key appointments.

Acknowledging the role of the National Assembly, judiciary, civil society organizations, and labor unions in the nation’s democracy, the President called for unity and commitment to building a better Nigeria.

In conclusion, President Tinubu invited all Nigerians to join in the endeavor to remake the nation into its better self, emphasizing the importance of courage, compassion, and commitment. He expressed his unwavering commitment to serving the nation faithfully and ended by declaring, “We can do it. We must do it. We shall do it.”
