WARRI/Nigeria: High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has recalled former Delta State Governor Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan’s support for peace initiatives during the Niger Delta militancy era, following the death of the former governor on Monday, October 19, 2026.
Tompolo conveyed his condolences in a statement signed by his Media Consultant, Dr. Paul Bebenimibo, describing Uduaghan’s passing as unexpected and expressing sadness over the loss of a former leader whose tenure coincided with critical efforts to address unrest in the oil-producing region.
The Ibe-Ebidouwei of Ijaw Nation and chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited specifically recalled Uduaghan’s support for the Presidential Amnesty Programme and pipeline surveillance arrangements during the administrations of former Presidents Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan.
The amnesty initiative became a major component of federal efforts to address militancy in the Niger Delta, while pipeline surveillance arrangements formed part of the wider response to insecurity and disruptions to oil operations in the region.
In his reaction, Tompolo said the former governor’s involvement in these efforts remained an important part of his recollection of their shared period in the region’s political and security history.
He expressed sympathy with the Uduaghan family, political associates and others affected by the death, noting that the former governor would be greatly missed.
Tompolo also prayed for divine comfort for the bereaved family and all those mourning the former governor, asking God to grant them the strength to endure the loss.
