ASHAKA/Nigeria: The Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has said power and authority belongs to God Almighty, and gives power to whoever He wishes.
Okowa made this known today on the occasion of the presentation of staff of office to the Okpaluku of Ashaka Community, His Royal Highness, Solomon Usoro Onyesom, in Ndokwa East Local Government Area, Delta State.
Okowa, represented by his deputy, Deacon Kingsley Otuaro, noted that various faith teaches us that power and authority belongs to God, and charged all to remember to be grateful to God no matter the circumstances.
He commended the people of Ashaka Community for following and respecting the process of succession to the throne, hope that they would continue to accord the new king the respect and understanding to function well.
“It is commendable that you have followed and respected the process of succession to the throne. I am of the hope that you will continue to accord your Royal father, the respect and understanding needed to facilitate his duties in this community, especially among a dynamic and resourceful people.”
He appealed to the monarch to discharge his responsibilities in a transparent manner, saying fairness and equity should be his watchword.
Okowa, however, appealed that the Okpaluku imbibe the democratic virtue of dialogue and consultation in all his dealings with his people.
“I therefore, appeal to Your Royal Highness, to discharge all your responsibilities in a transparent manner by being fair and just. As the father of your subjects, fairness and equity should be your watchword.
“Being the custodian of the tradition of your people, it is important that you demonstrate your ability to uphold the sanctity of their customs at all times.
“I sincerely appeal to you to imbibe the democratic virtues of dialogue and consultation in all your dealings with your people,” the governor stated.
