Tragic Loss of Teacher in Delta State Met with Assurances of Support from Education Commissioner

AGBOR/Nigeria: Delta State’s Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, has extended a heartfelt assurance of solidarity and support to teachers within the state during a poignant gathering on December 5, 2023, in Agbor, at an occasion of solemn service of songs held to honour the late Sunday Ufah, a teacher at Alihami Mixed Secondary School.

Accompanied by Mr. Austin Oghoro, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Mrs. Justina Shaka, Director of Schools, Mr. Kelly Kentua, Director of Inspectorate, Mrs. Note Anyiam, Principal of Zappa Basic Secondary School, and Mrs. Olushola, Chief Inspector of Education, Ika South, Mrs. Ezewu conveyed the ministry’s unwavering support to Ufah’s family and colleagues.

It could be recalled that Ufah tragically passed away while facing assault from a parent of a student at the school.

Expressing deep sorrow over the loss of a dedicated staff member, the Commissioner lauded Ufah’s commitment to teaching physics and his responsible discharge of duties throughout his tenure. She underscored the State Government’s commitment, led by Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, to provide the necessary assistance to alleviate the burden thrust upon Ufah’s immediate family.

“In this time of grief, we find solace in Mr. Ufah’s exemplary deeds,” stated Mrs. Ezewu, emphasizing the ministry’s consolation derived from Ufah’s positive contributions. She reiterated the ministry’s continuous prayers for the repose of his soul and assured both the bereaved family and the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) of ongoing support.

The tragic circumstances surrounding Ufah’s passing have sparked a wave of solidarity and a pledge of assistance from the state government and the education ministry, signaling a collective effort to honor the memory of a beloved teacher and ease the burden of loss felt by those left behind.
