BONN/Germany: The trial of a man who allegedly placed the severed head of a corpse in front of a courthouse in the western German city of Bonn begins on Monday.
The 39-year-old is charged with disturbing the peace of the dead.
He allegedly cut off the head of his acquaintance, who had previously died of an illness.
Prosecutors say that he carried the body part in a bag to the court and placed it in front of the entrance at the end of June.
Police initially believed it could be a suspected murder case. Only the autopsy revealed that the 44-year-old had previously died of natural causes due to a serious illness.
The defendant, who is said to have been living on the streets at the time, was arrested shortly after the discovery. The reasons for his actions are still unclear.
If convicted, he faces a possible punishment ranging from a fine up to three years in prison.
