LAGOS/Nigeria: Vice-Chancellor of Trinity University, Prof. Clement Kolawole, has declared that the institution has recorded significant strides in academic excellence, research output and infrastructure development since its establishment in 2019, describing the university’s journey as one driven by vision, resilience and divine support.
Kolawole made the remarks on Wednesday at the university’s 7th Founder’s Day Anniversary held at the Celebration Arena, City Campus, Yaba, where he revealed that Trinity University has grown steadily to over 2,000 students while expanding its academic programmes, strengthening faculty capacity and producing graduates making impacts within and outside Nigeria.
The ceremony, attended by clergymen, members of the Trinity University Governing Council, parents, students and alumni, was themed: “Hitherto, the Lord Has Helped Us.”
The Vice-Chancellor described the anniversary as a period of thanksgiving, reflection and renewed dedication to the institution’s founding ideals.
According to him, the theme reflects Trinity University’s journey and God’s faithfulness throughout its years of growth and development.
“From our humble beginnings to present achievements, we have witnessed divine help, favour and provision sustaining Trinity University’s vision of academic excellence, character formation and service,” he said.
Kolawole noted that the university had successfully conducted eight matriculation ceremonies and four convocation exercises since inception.
“Our student population keeps increasing steadily, research output continues improving, while graduates of Trinity University are making impacts locally and internationally across diverse professional fields,” he stated.
He further disclosed that the institution recently produced its first professor, Prof. Modupeade Adetunji, a Professor of Food Microbiology and Mycotoxicology, describing the development as evidence of the university’s rising academic profile.
Chairman of the occasion and Presiding Bishop of Victory International Church, Taiwo Adelakun, urged the institution not to lose sight of its modest beginnings, stressing that gratitude, consistency and vision had remained central to its growth trajectory.
He advised students to cultivate thanksgiving, shun unhealthy rivalry and focus on intellectual development.
“Make thanksgiving your lifestyle. Trinity University grew from few students to over 2,000 today. Be grateful to God always, avoid competition and focus on building your mind.
“You might not be where you want to be. But you cannot disprove the fact that you are not where you used to be. And for that reason, God must be thanked,” Adelakun said.
Also speaking, the Pro Vice-Chancellor of Trinity University, Mr. Samuel Olatunji, said the institution was established in response to concerns over declining educational standards, insecurity and moral challenges in society.
He said the university was founded to preserve discipline, quality education and godly values.
“We were deeply concerned about declining educational quality, school safety and moral values, prompting our resolve to build an institution preserving discipline, excellence and godly upbringing for children,” he said.
Olatunji called on members of the university community to remain committed to building a Christ-centred institution anchored on integrity, righteousness and societal transformation.
“We owe God Almighty an institution founded on dignity, righteousness and difference, where values, morality and societal impact reflect deliberate commitment to Christ-centred education and purposeful leadership,” he stated.
The Pro-Chancellor further urged students to embrace righteousness and renew their commitment to God, expressing optimism that Trinity University alumni would emerge as outstanding ambassadors recognised for excellence, integrity and meaningful contributions to society.
“Start anew with God in righteousness, so Trinity University alumni will become shining references in society, recognised everywhere for excellence, integrity and meaningful contributions to human development,” he added.
