LAGOS/Nigeria: In a significant stride toward youth empowerment and digital inclusion, Trinity University (TU), in collaboration with Global Wissen Consult (GWC) and supported by the Embassy of Sweden, has certified 600 students in digital entrepreneurship and literacy.
Speaking at the Certification and Award Ceremony held at the university’s campus in Yaba, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Clement Kolawole, hailed the initiative as innovative and transformative, describing it as a major step in preparing students for the realities of the modern digital economy.
Prof. Kolawole said the milestone was a testament to the students’ hard work, dedication, and perseverance in mastering essential digital and entrepreneurial skills. He noted that the partnership with GWC and the Swedish Embassy had exposed the participants to cutting-edge tools and global best practices in digital innovation.
“The partnership has given our students not only technical competence but also a global perspective, connecting them with digital innovators and entrepreneurs worldwide,” Kolawole stated.
He urged the graduates to deploy their newly acquired skills toward creating meaningful impact and driving innovation in their communities and chosen careers.
A symbolic highlight of the event was the hoisting of Sweden’s national flag on the university premises, an act Prof. Kolawole said represented Sweden’s enduring values of innovation, sustainability, and technological advancement, which align with Trinity University’s mission.
“To our students, the Swedish flag reminds you that your skills form part of a global movement for innovation and progress,” the Vice-Chancellor said, adding that the university would soon hoist flags of other partner countries to reflect its growing international collaborations.
The Honorary Consul of Sweden in Lagos, Mr. Philip Akesson, commended the initiative, urging the graduates to embrace continuous learning in digital transformation.
“Invest your time in developing digital skills that will shape your future. The digital revolution belongs to everyone, not just those in tech,” Akesson advised.
He described Nigeria’s young and creative population as a strong base for future collaborations with Sweden in innovation and inclusion. “When Swedish and Nigerian ideas meet, focusing on innovation and problem-solving, great things happen,” he added.
The Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of GWC, Mr. Oscar Nwokeji, said the programme was designed to equip students with skills for remote work and entrepreneurship, stressing that GWC would continue to guide graduates in their career and business pursuits.
Similarly, GWC’s Managing Director, Ms. Natalie Sundelin, encouraged the students to define clear career paths and apply their skills either locally or globally. She also urged them to stay connected with the programme for continued mentorship and professional support.
The certification ceremony underscored Trinity University’s commitment to producing globally competitive graduates equipped with practical digital and entrepreneurial competencies for a rapidly evolving world.
