ASABA/Nigeria: In a resounding declaration of divine ordination, the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed profound gratitude to God and the people of Delta State for his triumph at the Supreme Court.
Governor Oborevwori conveyed this during a thanksgiving service held at the Government House Chapel in Asaba, where he was joined by his wife, Deaconess Tobore, his Deputy Sir Monday Onyeme and wife, Catherine, as well as the immediate past Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, and his wife, Dame Edith.
Surviving a staggering 38 legal battles across various courts, from pre-election challenges to post-election disputes, Governor Oborevwori emphasized the divine hand that guided him throughout the arduous journey to becoming the Governor of Delta State. “I came to this altar before I went to Abuja for this last judgment and I said God is not a man that he should lie,” he reflected. “This victory is not about me but about the people of Delta state.”
Addressing the congregation, Governor Oborevwori highlighted the significance of his victory, not only as a personal triumph but as a testament to the faithfulness of God. “The immediate past governor said that somebody that would not recognize this altar will never be governor; God has honored that word.”
Acknowledging the weight of the legal challenges he faced, the Governor noted, “This case made it 38 cases for me from pre-election matters to this one. Even the governors who have done eight years did not go through such a number of cases.”
Welcomed by a jubilant crowd at the Asaba International Airport upon his return from Abuja, Governor Oborevwori expressed his happiness that the litigations were over. He reassured the people of Delta State of his commitment to delivering on his MORE Agenda and called on his opponents to join hands in moving the state forward.
“I call on my opponents to partner with us to move Delta state forward. This victory is for everyone, and like I promised Deltans, I will be the governor for all Deltans,” he affirmed.
The news of Governor Oborevwori’s affirmation by the Supreme Court ignited wild jubilation across different parts of Delta State. Notable figures, including the immediate past Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, and former Governor Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, congratulated the Governor on social media, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts to address the state’s challenges.
Senator Okowa, in a Facebook post, extended his heartfelt congratulations, stating, “This judgment truly underscores the trust and confidence that the people of our state have placed in the leadership of Governor Oborevwori’s administration and our great party.”
Former Governor Uduaghan expressed relief at the conclusion of the legal battles, saying, “These cases have been quite trying, but for those that have passed through this route, propaganda was a big issue. We thank God for the overall result; it is now time to settle down fully and deliver the dividends of democracy.”
Former Deputy Governor Benjamin Elue also shared in the celebration, remarking, “Now that the battle is over, our Governor can now focus on the task of advancing Delta State; Deltans should expect more development in all spheres to the glory of God Almighty.”
