Indigenes of Ubulu-Uku community in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State, have raised alarm over the increasing spate of killings in the community, including the cold blooded killing of the paramount ruler of the kingdom, Obi Ofulue Akaeze II, by unknown
persons, and called on the state and Federal Governments to urgently come to their aid, before the entire community is wiped out.
This latest cry for help has been made following the gruesome murder of a security aide attached to the country home of one of the prominent political figures in the community, Mr. Emeka Okwudishu, who has been away from the state for several months.
Family members, who had visited Mr. Okwudishu’s country home, were shocked to discover the body of the security aide, who had served him for several years, slaughtered and dumped in the local water storage tank, in the premises.
A Police source who confirmed the incident, however said that investigations into the murder is still on-going, but members of the Okwudishu family have raised alarm over the incident, claiming that they have also been receiving death threats from unknown phone calls, since they reported the shocking murder to the law enforcement agents.
An indigene of the community, who spoke on grounds of anonymity said: “Ubulu Uku community has now become a desert of sorts where people are being killed almost on a daily basis by assailants who break into people’s homes, murder them and then disappear into thin air, without any trace.
“The motive behind these killings is yet to be ascertained, but some sources strongly believe it is connected to Political struggle and differences, which sadly infiltrated into the traditional institution in the community.
“Visitors and strangers to the town have now vacated from the community and even most of the indigenes who had lived in their family homes for years, have now relocated to neighbouring towns and other parts of the state and country.
“Illustrious sons and daughter who usually visit home for social and festive activities are now afraid to come back, while some have relocated their parents and siblings to other places, because of fear for their lives. This is having a adverse effect on our socio-economic, cultural and traditional life, ” he lamented.
