OLEH/Nigeria: Governor of Akwa-Ibom State, Dr. Emmanuel Udom, has stressed the need for governments and other stakeholders to give education to their children in order to secure a better future.
Mr. Udom, who stated this at Oleh, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State during the commissioning of Emore Grammar School, lauded the Governor for not only embarked on critical projects but for ensuring the completion of projects by his predecessor.
While describing education as a veritable instrument for exposure to the universe, Mr. Udom, underscored the importance of maintaining the facilities and the need for teachers and students of the school to o values the infrastructure.
In remarks, Governor of Delta State, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa, enjoined teachers of Emore Grammar School to maximise the benefits of the edifice and the facilities in the school to build students that would be leaders of tomorrow.
Senator Okowa, who admonished the people of Oleh and Isoko nation in general to be peaceful at all times, saying that peace was needed for the infrastructural development of any society.
Governor Okowa, however, used the opportunity to call on the federal government to inaugurate the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) rather than embarking on forensic auditing.
The State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Patrick Ukah , in his welcome address, who said that the school was established in 1972 by the then Military Governor of Mid-Western state , Brigadier-General Samuel Ogbemudia, as a mixed secondary school in order to meet the increasing demand for secondary school education by the good people of Isoko land .
He stated that out of the 13 model schools inherited from the government of his predecessor, Senator Okowa led administration had completed completed and commissioned four while five more have also been completed and awaiting commissioning.
Ukah, said that in recognition of the critical role of education in the development of society, the Okowa administration in 2016 organised a two day Education Summit in Asaba, asserting that the summit identified amongst others, the infrastructural decay of schools including that of Emore Grammar School.
He said that ever since the summit was concluded and resolutions approved by Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, the Governor had embarked on a massive programme of building new schools, new model schools, modern classroom blocks, laboratories, and renovation as well as upgrading of facilities in schools across the state.
The Basic and Secondary Education Commissioner, who noted that there was a strong evidence that conducive learning environment would facilitate better instruction and improved students’ academic performance as well as contribute towards reducing the rate of drop out from school among students.
For his part, the President-General of Oleh kingdom, Chief (Comr.) Believe Alakri, commended the governor for the completion and commissioning of Emore Grammar School and especially for the establishment of the Judicial Panel of Enquiry to look into the land dispute between Oleh and Ozoro kingdoms.
