OKPANA/Nigeria: The Director General of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, Patrick Ukah, has flagged off a one-day free medical outreach for residents of Okpanam community, on behalf of the Ugo-Ani of Okpanam, HRM Dr. Michael Ogbolu.
The outreach, held in Ukah’s country home in partnership with the Okpanam Community Development Union (OCDU) worldwide, is aimed at improving health access for both young and elderly residents, particularly those burdened by rising healthcare costs.
Ukah said the initiative is a strategic effort to help his constituents understand their health status and receive treatment for underlying ailments, with services ranging from general checkups, dental and eye care, to health talks on prostate and diabetes, as well as the distribution of free insecticide-treated nets.
“This outreach is about bringing healthcare directly to the grassroots. It’s part of our commitment to improve life expectancy and deliver the dividends of democracy to the people, no matter their age or status,” Ukah said.
Chairman of the Outreach Committee, Mr. Charles Okolo, praised the collaboration with OCDU, noting that many people who avoid hospitals due to financial constraints now have access to quality healthcare. “We have specialists here attending to a range of medical conditions, and the turnout has been impressive,” he added.
A beneficiary, Akeyemi Romanus, expressed gratitude to the organisers, saying the outreach helped him discover a previously undiagnosed condition for which he is now receiving treatment.
