AGBOR/Nigeria: The Delta State Commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education, Chief Patrick Ukah, has restated government’s resolve to continue to give top priority to the development of education.
Chief Patrick Ukah made this known at Ute-Okpu, in Ika North East Local Government Area, during the commissioning of corps members’ lodge built and fully equipped by Ute-Okpu Grammar School Old Students Association (UGSOSA).
According to the Commissioner who was represented by Dr Michael Emeshili, “From what is obtained in the state budget, we can deduce that Delta State Government is reiterating its resolve to continue to boast the education sector. In a bid to revitalize the teaching profession in the State, Government has also recruited over one thousand teachers and I believe some of them have been posted here.”
While commending the members of the association for their kind gesture, he urged the community to secure all government facilities in their vicinity.
The President of the association, Hon. Chamberlain Dunkwu, noted that there was need for infrastructural development and investment in Ute-Okpu Grammar School, saying that the school kept increasing while most of the old facilities in the school remained dilapidated.
“This structure which we have put in place shall go a long way towards solving the accommodation challenges of our corps members who have to travel from far to teach our children,” he stated.
While saying that the association was not unaware of the problem the school was experiencing, he pointed out that the building of corps members lodge was just the beginning of massive infrastructure and human development that the school would witness in the nearest future.
Hon. Dunkwu implored the students to be humble and studious, calling equally on the teachers to be dedicated to their duties.
On his part, the Principal of the school, Mr Daniel Okwudiogor expressed appreciation to all members Ute-Okpu Grammar School Old Students Association, describing their benevolence as overwhelming and prayed for them to be rewarded divinely.
Also present at the ceremony were the Permanent Secretary, Post Primary Education Board, Dr Mrs Ngozi Bamah, the Chief Inspector of Education, Ika North East local Government Area, Mrs. Beatrice Sorokwu, the Clergy and representatives of the traditional ruler of Ute-Okpu.
