KWALE/Nigeria: The Umusadege Youth Chairman Comrade Osondu Ezeoba has called on the oil prospecting companies in Ndokwa West local government area to engage in durable and people-oriented projects that will create jobs for the youth to curb youth restiveness.
Comrade Osondu stated this during the commencement of the laying of a one kilometer drainage pipe from the Akala junction to the river by the Midwestern oil prospecting company.
He thanked the oil company for the project which he said will arrest incidents of flooding.
While he commended them for the project, he said that the street light project recently completed along the Alamaossai and Akala road have started malfunctioning due to bad contractors handling the project.
Comrade Osondu further said that the street solar bore hole constructed in various streets in kwale by the oil prospecting companies was a white elephant project as it stopped functioning barely a year after construction, adding that the recent blockade of the Ughelli Asaba road by Ndokwa west youth was as a result of insincerity on the part of the companies.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for the oil prospecting companies who pleaded anonymity said that the oil prospecting companies sited good projects. He accused most of the youth of vandalizing the valuable equipment in the projects such as solar batteries and panels.
He said that emphasis should be on protecting the installations and bringing vandals to book.
