UMUSETI/Nigeria: In a powerful demonstration of community-led development, a prominent indigene of Olieogo Umuseti in Ndokwa West Local Government Area, Delta State, has delivered a life-changing sanitation and water project to Ezeti Primary School, providing pupils and staff with their first modern toilet and borehole facilities since the school was founded in the 1950s.
The newly commissioned six-room solar-powered toilet facility and borehole water system, valued at over ₦18 million, was unveiled on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, amid jubilation from pupils, teachers, and community members. Prior to this intervention, the school had no functional toilets, forcing children to defecate in nearby bushes and exposing them to serious health hazards.
Representing the Executive Chairman of Ndokwa West LGA, Hon. Chief (Dr.) Goddey Obi Nzete, at the ceremony, Vice Chairman Hon. Mrs. Chinwe Anowu lauded the donor’s extraordinary gesture, describing it as a vital complement to the government’s effort to uplift rural educational infrastructure. “This is a clear demonstration of selflessness and community responsibility,” Chief Nzete said. “We deeply appreciate this contribution, which promotes the health, hygiene, and dignity of our young learners.”
Community spokesperson, Chief Obi Osakwe, hailed the donor’s commitment to development and appealed to the local government to support the facility’s sustainability by assigning security personnel to the school, which has lacked a guard for over a decade.
Chief Nzete, through his representatives, reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to grassroots development and urged the school and community to maintain the facility for the benefit of future generations. The project’s execution was credited to Engr. France Enwelikwu of Francehope Nigeria Limited, who was applauded for delivering quality work on behalf of the donor.
The commissioning ended with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and an inspection of the facility, which now stands as a beacon of what strong community-government collaboration can achieve for rural education and public health.
