After over 2 years of leaving without light in many part of Ukwuani LGA, the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has reconnected the Umutu community.
Speaking during an interview, a community leader who does not want to be named in print, stated that the problem started when some community youths attacked the staff of the company over the estimated billing system which the power company used to issue monthly bills to consumers. According to him, the attack of the power company staff led to the disconnection which affected other communities of Ebedei, Umutu, Umuaja, Obeti, Owa Abbi.
While the people of Umutu are happy with the reconnection, they gave thanks to God for making it possible for the light to be reconnected.
Many of the residents who were full of joy, gave appreciation to the leaders of Umutu community, those in diaspora, Umutu Development Union (UDU), the Chiefs and the Platform Petroleum Limited for their assistance.
One of the resident Mrs Rita Eleh thanked everybody that made the reconnection possible, nothing that the reconnection had improved the economic lives of the people.
