Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the member representing Ukwuani Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon (Dr.) Alphonsus Ojo drew the attention of the governor to the uncompleted Umutu Skills Acquisition Centre, started during the government of Chief James Onanefe Ibori, but is now abandoned.
“We passionately appeal to you therefore, to use your esteemed office to look into this project with a view to resuscitating it.” He said.
Stating that the community is conscious of the paucity of fund and attendant financial constraints facing the nation, said that as people of faith, the financial despondency will be overcomed, knowing that when the centre is completed, it will help the government in its SMART agenda programme, as it will be used to help in the training of the swarming unemployed youths in the area.
The community also seek the governor’s intervention of the major and feeder roads in the community, as lack of good road system has caused untold hardship to the community, as lives and revenues has been lost as the people tend to travel far through better roads to get to nearby communities.
Among those roads mentioned are the 13km Umutu-Akoku Uno road, the old Agbor-Sapele road and the mission road.
The delegates pointed out that if these roads are rehabilited there will be reduction in carnage within the community.
“These roads if rehabilitated will reduce carnage and the high rate of roads traffic accidents involving our farmers who use the new Agbor-Sapele road to and from their farms, and the road will also serve the Skill Acquisition Centre”.
