ABUJA/Nigeria: Senator Seriake Dickson has revealed that he was unaware of the emergency sitting of the Senate Committee on Ethics and Disciplinary Matters that led to the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Dickson, who represents Bayelsa West, stated that he was attending a three-day workshop on the Tax Reform Bill from Wednesday, March 5, to Friday, March 7, and was not informed about the committee’s emergency meeting.
Speaking during a visit to Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan at her Abuja residence on Friday, Dickson said he had been assured by the Committee Chairman that the hearing would hold on Wednesday, March 11, with notices already issued.
He explained that due to his active involvement in the Tax Reform Bill deliberations, he and some colleagues missed the plenary session where the ethics committee’s report recommending the suspension was considered and approved.
During the visit, Dickson and other opposition lawmakers offered words of encouragement, prayers, and support to Akpoti-Uduaghan and her husband. He added that they would consult with other colleagues and engage Senate leadership to seek a swift resolution to the suspension.
