UNEC to Host Fifth International Virtual Conference on Sustainable Development and Economic Resilience

ENUGU/Nigeria: The Faculty of Business Administration, University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNEC), in collaboration with the Chief Emeka Offor Foundation for Business Research, has announced a call for abstracts ahead of its Fifth International Virtual Conference, scheduled to convene distinguished scholars, policymakers, industry leaders, and researchers from across the globe.

In a statement jointly signed by Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Igwe, Associate Dean of the Faculty and Chairman of the Conference Organising Committee, and Dr. Chidi Nnamani, Secretary of the Committee, the organisers disclosed that the conference will be held on 25th and 26th June 2026 under the theme:

“Navigating Economic Uncertainty: Innovative Management Strategies for Sustainable Development in Emerging Economies.”

According to the statement, the conference is designed to foster critical discourse on contemporary economic and managerial challenges confronting emerging economies while exploring innovative pathways towards sustainable growth and development.

The conference will feature an impressive array of keynote speakers, including Dr. Christopher Nwachukwu, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Emco Oilfield Services Limited; Dr. Sam Ogbu-Nwobodo, Commissioner for Trade, Investment and Industry, Enugu State; and Rt. Hon. Engr. Uche Calistus Ugwu, Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly.

The organisers have invited abstracts in areas spanning debt crises, technological disruption, climate-related risks, governance, entrepreneurship, innovation, and other broad domains within the management sciences. These thematic areas reflect the growing need for interdisciplinary solutions to the complex economic realities of the contemporary world.

The Lead Paper Presentation will be delivered by Prof. Billy Okoye of the University of Abuja.

The conference, which will be conducted virtually, will have the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, as Chief Host.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, Prof. J.U.J. Onwumere, will serve as Host, while Prof. Robinson Ugwoke, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration and Director of the UNN Business School, will serve as Co-Host.

Providing further insight into the significance of the conference, Prof. Ugwoke expressed profound appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ortuanya, for fostering a vibrant culture of research and scholarly engagement through a vision-driven leadership approach that continues to strengthen the University’s standing among leading institutions in Africa. He noted that participants stand to gain immensely from this year’s conference, which builds upon the intellectual foundations laid during the previous edition and remains firmly anchored in the enduring philosophy of Town-and-Gown collaboration.

In his remarks, Prof. Charles Obeta, a lecturer in the Faculty, observed that since its inception five years ago, the Faculty’s international conference series has evolved into a credible and influential platform for generating evidence-based solutions to pressing economic, developmental, and governance challenges.

He expressed optimism that the 2026 edition would attract an even broader spectrum of participants from within Nigeria and the international academic community.

Prof. Obeta further encouraged scholars, researchers, practitioners, and postgraduate students from around the world to seize the opportunity presented by the conference to showcase groundbreaking research, exchange transformative ideas, establish meaningful professional networks, and contribute to the advancement of knowledge capable of shaping a more resilient and sustainable future for emerging economies.
