LAGOS/Nigeria: A cabin crew member of United Nigeria Airlines, Miss Uche Francisca Ogbuagu, has received commendation for her composure and professionalism in managing an unruly passenger during a recent flight.
The recognition followed a formal letter to the airline’s management by Dr Everest Okpara, Chairman of Everight Diagnostic Ltd, who said he witnessed the encounter and was impressed by the crew member’s conduct.
In the letter dated August 11, 2026, and titled “Commendation for Exceptional Customer Service – Everight Diagnostic Ltd,,” Okpara said the incident arose from a disagreement over compliance with aviation rules.
He said Ogbuagu remained calm throughout the encounter despite what he described as the passenger’s extremely rude and unruly behaviour.
According to him, the cabin crew member maintained a respectful tone, exercised restraint and continued to deal with the passenger courteously rather than allowing the situation to escalate.
Okpara said her response was particularly noticeable to passengers seated nearby because she remained focused on her duties and the airline’s procedures without allowing the passenger’s conduct to affect the quality of service she provided.
“What particularly stood out was her ability to remain focused on her responsibility to the passenger and to the airline’s policy, without allowing the passenger’s conduct to compromise the quality of her service,” he said.
He described her conduct as evidence of emotional intelligence, self-control and maturity, qualities he said were important in an industry where cabin crew members are among the most visible representatives of an airline.
Okpara said the manner in which crew members respond to difficult situations can influence passengers’ perception of an airline and its commitment to customer service.
“As someone who regularly interacts with professionals across different service environments, I recognise that these qualities are not merely desirable in the aviation industry; they are fundamental to delivering a truly excellent customer experience,” he said.
He urged the airline’s management to formally communicate the commendation to Ogbuagu, stressing that employees who demonstrate exceptional professionalism should be recognised and encouraged.
Okpara described Ogbuagu’s handling of the encounter as a positive reflection of the service standards United Nigeria Airlines seeks to uphold.
The commendation places attention on the role of cabin crew members in managing challenging passenger interactions while maintaining professionalism, courtesy and adherence to established procedures.
