The management of Elexdon Technologies Consulting LTD, the Urhobo Progressive Youth Association(UPYA), has signed an agreement to carry out what they called OPERATION ONE YOUTH ONE SKILL initiative, an arrangement that will train no fewer than a hundred youths on Mast installation, repairs and maintenance as well as point of sale machines popularly known as POS by October, 2015.
In a statement by the President of UPYA, Mr. Marcus Ekure, these skills are specialized in nature and are uncommon in this area. It is not enough to acquire skills, our youths should be guided to acquire skills in relevant and highly saleable areas so as to avoid the ever growing problem of youth unemployment. There are masts everywhere in our environs belonging to telecommunication companies, banks, television and radio stations just to mention but a few but our youths are scarcely gravitated towards technical know-how in these regard. Operators often depend on experts from far for repairs and maintenance of these masts. Same is the case with POS machine which is fast becoming the other of the day.
Marcus maintained that in a short while, there would be hardly any transaction without a POS machine especially now that there is a heavy drum beat in a direction of cashless economy. Using the GSM revolution as a case study, he said at a point when handsets were not yet common, those who took steps in acquiring skills on its repairs gained immeasurably as they maintained a long range monopoly of the skill before others got involved.
He added that arrangements have been finalized with Elexdon Technologies Consulting Limited, the company to carry out the training, and training schedule has been drawn. Marcus said the both training would run on daily bases for the period of four days starting from first of October.
Finally, he urged the youths to go for useful skills as university certificates are no longer enough.
